Jesus is the baby we sing about at Christmas. He was born 2000 years ago.
He was executed around age 33. His dead body was placed in a tomb. A squad of guards was set over it.
On the Sunday morning his friends came to pay their respects. They found the place deserted and the tomb empty.
Angels told them, “Jesus is alive…”
Jesus was seen by over 500 people. He talked with them and ate with them. They touched him.
About six weeks later he took his friends to a hilltop and said his goodbyes. Then he ‘lifted off’ and went to heaven. The last they saw, he was going into a cloud.
Sounds nuts, doesn’t it? We believe that as crazy as it sounds, the story holds true in the cold light of day, and the Bible, that holds the story of Jesus, is reliable.
What made Jesus stand out was the fact that he claimed to be God, and there has never been anyone since who has made such far-out claims and been counted sane by a large portion of the world for over 2000 years.
We believe Jesus lives still. We believe he created the universe. We take him at his word that he is currently ‘preparing a place’ for us in Heaven. We remember the promises he made that he would, at a time when the world had gone mad, literally return to earth, break back into human history, and make everything right.
And then we would live, with him, for eternity.
